Money Smart Week was started in 2002 by the Federal Reserve Bank in Chicago as a public awareness campaign designed to help consumers better manage their personal finances.

This is achieved through collaboration and coordinated efforts of many organizations including businesses, financial institutions, schools, libraries, not-for-profits, government agencies and media. These groups come together once a year to stress the importance of financial literacy, inform consumers where they can get help, and provide free educational seminars and activities throughout the designated week. Programming is offered for all ages and income levels and covers all facets of personal finance from establishing a budget to first time home buying to estate planning.

Examples of some of the class that will be offered in the Peoria area include Anatomy of a Credit Report; Avoiding Identity Theft & Financial Exploitation; Arm Your Business with theTools of Success; Brand Name Drugs vs. Generics, Your Health, Your Pocketbook; Credit Scores, the Silent Killer; Do You Need to Spend Money to Feel Good?; Everyday Legal, What You Need to Know; Long Term Care; Supermarket Smarts; Women & Investing; and Surviving Divorce Financially.

Money Smart Week will be held in the Peoria area starting on Sunday, April 6th and going through Saturday, April 12th.
