PEORIA RANKS NO. 33 ON INC. MAGAZINE'S TOP CITY FOR DOING BUSINESS IN AMERICA
Peoria climbs from #59 to #33
For the last two years, Inc. magazine has examined 274 population centers looking for job creation and other signs that businesses are thriving. Inc. has found that the big cities are idling, and the real entrepreneurial hotbeds are on the periphery -- where low costs and favorable regulatory environments make it possible to thrive in a tough economy.

Peoria is ranked #33 (Just below Chicago) on Inc.'s Most Balanced Economy & Growth list, #55 on Medium Sized MSA's for Best Places, and #159 on Overall Best Places.

The rankings are derived from three-month rolling averages of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics unadjusted employment data reported from September 1994 to September 2004. The data reflects the North American Industry Classification System categories, including total non-farm employment and jobs in manufacturing, financial services, business and professional services, educational and health services, information, retail and wholesale trade, transportation and utilities, leisure and hospitality, and government. This allowed the focus to be not only on job growth, but on high-wage sectors as well.
